Product & Design Engineer AutoStore

As a Product &  Design Engineer in the Modules Bin team you will be part of AutoStore’s extensive multidisciplinary Research & Development department. The specialized Bin team is responsible for the entire product development and life cycle process of our AutoStore storage containers (Bin) – with a special focus on plastic parts, and including idea development, research, design, tooling, sampling, testing and release.

In this role we can offer a varying “hands on” engineering job in an exciting, competent, and good working environment. The Modules Bin team is a supportive and small team where you will get the opportunity to participate and grow as a specialist within the field of plastic and design of AutoStore bins being sold across the world.

This position reports to the Director R&D Bin & Intralogistic Solutions and will work from AutoStore’s head office and test facilities in Nedre Vats, near Haugesund/Norway. We value flexibility and we offer a 60/40 home office agreement. 

Responsibilities

As a Product & Design Engineer you will have varied and interesting days where you will contribute to all processes related to our plastic module, Bins (containers). You will be a part of the development process from start-to-finish. 

Some of the responsibilities include

  • product and material approval testing including design, setup, and usage of test equipment.
  • taking part in the research and development of new products  
  • working with tools and software such as Python, Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), 3D printers or 3D scanners 
  • FEA and FMEA analysis as part of the product design process 
  • prototyping and cooperation with external development partners 
  • troubleshooting and root cause analysis as part of product error handling and continuous product improvement

Qualifications and personal qualities

We are looking for a development engineer who is interested in the design of plastic parts and the related tooling and production methods. English is the working language in AutoStore, so solid language skills in English, both written and oral, is a prerequisite. We want someone who is open to new challenges and willing to learn. 

You have a relevant education from fields such as mechanical, design or process engineering. 

It would be advantageous if you 

  • have experience with tool such as CAD (Inventor, SolidWorks) and FEA (Ansys, Abacus) 
  • have experience from working with plastic parts, injection molding, tooling and 3D printing
